Mixed Martial Arts: Not For The Weak

By: Mike Samuels

Being a true mixed martial artist means hours of hard work and dedication to the sport. You condition your mind as well as your body. The mind is the greatest weapon that a mixed martial artist has in his or her arsenal.

The mind is the start of the process, because if your mind is not in the right frame, the body will not follow. Being a mixed martial arts fighter entails a lot of discipline, your will to take the kinds of punishment that your body will have to endure day in and day out. It takes a special kind of individual to want to endure the training, and the mind games that one has to deal with.

Once you think that your mind is in the right place, you condition your body every day for hours at a time.  Getting your body as strong as your mind is imperative due to the fact that you are always using both to win a match.  If your mind and body are out of sync, it could make for a bad night.

Now that you have made mind and body ready for combat, it is time for the test. Can I actually get in the octagon and will myself to win a match. Can I take the punishment? Is my will stronger than the guy across the ring? If your answer is not ‘yes’ to all these questions, then you are not ready.
When I walk into the ring I must have complete confidence in my training, my abilities, and myself. No matter how long the fight, no matter what the odds, I will walk out of the ring victorious.

Being a mixed martial artist, I have to know that I can my bend my opponent’s will to my own. I do not have time to be weak of mind or body. No matter how I feel, I must drive on to victory.
